1927 Indian Head Quarter Eagle

The 1927 has the lowest mintage figure of the 1926-1929 Quarter Eagles and this makes it the least available in terms of the total number known. However, it is available in any Mint State grade up to and including Mint State-64. Gems are somewhat scarce, but are more obtainable than pre-1925 issue with the exception of the 1908.
The 1927 Indian Head Quarter Eagle is an issue that is almost always found with a sharp strike. The obverse has very sharp detail on the feathers, but the border is sometimes a bit less well impressed with signs of buckling. The reverse is also sharp with full feathers on the breast, leg and wing, but there may be some weakness at the border.
1927 Quarter Eagle: Surface Marks, Copper Spots, and Luster Quality
The surfaces generally show small, scattered marks. A number of 1927 Quarter Eagles have mint-made copper spots as well. If the collector takes his time, however, he should be able to locate a coin that has only minor marks.
The luster, as on most of the Philadelphia issues from the 1920’s is very good. The 1927 is generally frosty although not quite as much so as the 1926 or the 1928. Locating a specimen with good luster is reasonably easy.
