1914 Indian Head Eagle

Although generally perceived as another common Philadelphia Mint issue, the 1914 Indian Head Eagle is scarcer than generally believed.
This date is displays the typical granular, matte-like surfaces that are so normal for the series. The 1914 Indian Head Eagle is also noted with more mint frost than is usually seen for a Philadelphia issue of this design.
A Rare Mint State Challenge with Exceptional Eye Appeal
The strike is as sharp as on most any other Philadelphia Indian Eagle and all design elements can be seen with remarkable clarity. The luster typically exhibits a great deal of “flash,” as can be expected from a coin with this amount of mint frost.
Because the 1914 Indian Head Eagle is harder to obtain in Mint State than most other Indian Eagles from this mint, it typically comes very heavily abraded and bagmarked. However, nice examples that were saved during World War I can sometimes be had for a price. There are only three coins graded MS67 by PCGS and NGC combined as of March 2010 and those three represent the Finest Known examples.
Many specialists in the series feel that the 1914 is an undervalued issue that could become more expensive to add to your collection in the future.
