Condition Rarity and Aesthetic Appeal in the Indian Head Series
The eye appeal is generally below average for the date because of the excessively low quantities that exist in Mint State grades. The 1911-D Indian Head Eagle saw wide circulation and this is clearly evident based on the appearance of the survivors. Aesthetically pleasing coins always command substantial premiums and are the most coveted coins in the entire series.
The 1911-D Indian Head Eagle is the premier condition rarity in the Indian Head Eagle series. It is generally seen in circulated grades and it is scarce in the lower Uncirculated grades. It becomes rare in MS62 and it is very rare in properly graded MS63. In MS64 and MS65, the 1911-D is extremely rare.
