1910-S Indian Head Eagle: Color and Condition Rarity
The coloration is usually a light orange or faint coppery-gold. There are also a number of rose-gold specimens that can be obtained.
The few relatively high grade pieces which exist tend to have excellent overall eye appeal with great color, surfaces and luster. But most 1910-S Eagles have below average eye appeal on account of abraded surfaces, some weakness of strike and rough handling.
The 1910-S Indian Head Eagle is one of the most unusual dates in the series and it is certainly among the true Condition Rarities of all 20th century United States gold coins. It is reasonably common in circulated grades and can be found in the MS60 to MS62 range without a great effort. It becomes very scarce in properly graded MS63 and MS64 pieces are rare. Gem 1910-S Eagles are exceptionally rare.
