1910 Indian Head Eagle

Despite a relatively small mintage for a Philadelphia Mint issue, the 1910 is actually one of the easiest dates to obtain in all grades thanks to a large number having been saved. In fact, more than 4,000 1910 Indian Head Eagles have been graded between MS60 and MS64. There are a number of MS66 examples and three MS68’s share Finest Known status at NGC; PCGS has graded just three pieces in MS67 with none better.
The luster is seen with less vibrancy than is typical for a Philadelphia minted Indian Head Eagle. It varies from average quality to outstanding on some high quality pieces.
Surface Variations and Collecting the 1910 Indian Head Eagle
Almost all 1910 Indian Head Eagles display frosted surfaces with a fine granularity that is typical for a Philadelphia coin. Some can be found with a satin sheen and finding one of these should present a nice challenge for the collector who appreciates this “look.”
The frosted, granular specimens exhibit mostly orange and greenish-gold colors, while the less frequently seen satin surface coins display a soft yellow-gold hue.
As this is one of the easier to locate Indian Eagles in all grades, it presents even the novice collector an outstanding opportunity to purchase a really nice, pristine Gem that will not break the bank to acquire.
