1910-D Indian Head Eagle

The 1910-D Indian Head Eagle is the most common branch mint issue Indian Eagle. Although the date displays a high mintage that actually eclipses the more common 1926, far more of them were melted. Many of them were still saved both in America and abroad and there are a number that are exceptionally well preserved. The date is widely available in all grades up to MS64.
It is typical for this issue to display weakened definition in the date, on the stars and the lettering on the reverse. This is likely a result of how the coins were positioned in the collar or because of excessive die wear which is not generally seen in other issues.
1910-D Indian Head Eagle: Strike Quality and Luster Variations
A fair number are found without these characteristics, however, and can be classified with exceptional strikes. Still, nearly all present plenty of detail on the headdress and on the eagle’s wing feathers.
Most 1910-D Indian Head Eagles are found with satin-like luster that is mostly vibrant and superior for a Denver Mint coin. Usually 1910-D’s exhibit moderate orange-gold hues but there are some with a greenish-gold tinge.
