Surface Quality and Rarity of 1908 No Motto
There are a great many 1908 No Motto eagles that can be found with stellar surfaces that appear as though they were pulled right from the dies. However, as this issue can be found all over the grading spectrum it also has its fair share of bagmarks and abrasions.
Since this issue is typically well produced, it is often seen with good eye appeal. Finding a true Gem, however, is another story and properly graded MS65 and better pieces are truly rare.
The 1908 With Motto Eagle is a somewhat common coin from the standpoint of overall rarity. It is fairly relatively easy to locate in circulated grades and in Uncirculated up to the MS62 to MS63 range. It is scarce in MS64 and rarer than generally recognized in MS65. A very small number of MS66 and better coins exist but these are almost never offered for sale.
