1908 No Motto

This 1908 No Motto issue is much scarcer than its 1907 predecessor and it has the second lowest mintage of any regular issue in the series. It can be found in Gem grades and although it is certainly outranked by several other challenging dates at this level, it is still quite scarce.
Several carefully preserved and ultra high grade examples as high as MS67 have been seen at auction over the past several years. One coin has achieved an acclaimed MS68 grade and it is housed in an NGC holder.
Strike Quality and Coloration Variations in Liberty Coins
The strike is generally very strong but we some specimens lack detail in the portions nearest the TY in LIBERTY. A number also show some softness in the eagle’s feathers.
Natural coloration is most often a light, apricot-gold hue. Some can be found with a greenish-gold tint and a small number have traces of pink and lilac. Luster is most often very frosty but there are a moderate number that are seen with a somewhat subdued appearance. An occasional few can be found with a matte like appearance.
