1900-S Double Eagle

The mintage figure for the 1900-S is similar to that of the 1898-S but can be harder to locate.
Expert’s Corner: 1900-S Double Eagle
At its current value in MS64, I think the 1900-S double eagle is good value, especially as it can be very difficult to find in grades above this.
This date shows a quality of strike comparable to other San Francisco double eagles of this period. The centers are usually very sharp with strong detail seen on the hair of Liberty and the eagle’s feathers. On some, the obverse stars may not have full radial lines. The surfaces are almost always seen with very heavy detracting abrasions, especially in the obverse fields. Some show minor mint-made spotting. The luster on most 1900-S double eagles is very frosty in texture; a few are seen with semi-proof-like fields.
