1883-CC Liberty Double Eagle – Rarity in High Grades
The number of 1883-CC double eagles known to exist increased in the 1990s due to discoveries of small groups in Europe and other overseas locations. These small groups have mostly dried up, and the rarity levels for the 1883-CC have not changed dramatically since then.
The 1883-CC double eagle is seen most often in the Extremely Fine-45 to About Uncirculated-55 range. It is becoming harder to locate in properly graded About Uncirculated-58. Most of the uncirculated pieces that exist grade MS60 to MS61. This date is rare in MS62 and extremely rare in MS63 with less than a dozen known.
