Occasionally small groups of 1882-CC double eagles are found in Europe or other overseas sources. These tend to be fairly well-worn coins with “smudgy” dark color and extensive marks. But some of the higher grade pieces known of this date are also from these sources.

The 1882-CC is somewhat available in lower grades, and it can sometimes be found in the mid to higher AU grades with a moderate amount of difficulty. It is quite scarce in uncirculated, and most of the coins in this range are no better than MS60. It is rare in MS61 and very rare in properly graded MS63. Presently, the finest known are four MS63 coins.
