1876-CC Double Eagle

More Double Eagles were struck at the Carson City mint in 1876 than in any other year during this Mint’s existence (1870-1893). The 1876-CC is the most common Type Two Carson City Double Eagle from the standpoint of overall rarity.
Examples of this date are often found with weakness of strike on some of the obverse stars and on the hair of Liberty. The reverse shows sharp detail and appears crisper than the obverse.
1876-CC Double Eagle: Surfaces, Luster, and Eye Appeal
1876-CC Double Eagles generally have good luster which can range from Prooflike to satiny to slightly dull. The colorations most often seen are bright yellow gold and greenish-gold. Pieces are sometimes found with copper spots and these are not considered detracting unless they are very heavy or conspicuously located. The surfaces on many examples are very heavily abraded. This is a hard date to locate with good eye appeal.
