1932 Indian Head Eagle

The 1932 is, by a large margin, the most common Indian Head Eagle. There are tens of thousands of coins known and a stream of 1932 Indian Head Eagles are still being found in overseas sources and are being repatriated back to the United States. This date is easily found in any grade up to and including MS65 and it is more available in superb Gem Uncirculated than any other date in this series as well.
This is a very well produced issue. The obverse is usually quite well detailed although it is not uncommon for pieces to show slight weakness on the curls below BERT in LIBERTY.
1932 Eagle Characteristics: Cuts, Spots, and Color Variants
There are at least two interesting tendencies that are found on most 1932 Eagles. On many coins, there are unusual, deep cuts in the surfaces which do not appear to be abrasions. It is possible that these are mint-made. On many other 1932 Eagles, the surfaces are spotted. These spots are not considered detracting if they are light and not prominently positioned but they are felt to have a negative impact on eye appeal if they are too abundant or located on Liberty’s face.
The luster is excellent and is probably as good as on any issue in this series. Many pieces have rich, frosty luster which can be extremely attractive. The coloration on many 1932 Eagles is outstanding as well. Pieces are known with a variety of rich natural coloration including green-gold, orange-gold and rich rose-gold hues.
