1926 Indian Head Eagle: Luster Variations and Rarity in MS66+
The luster on 1926 Indian Head Eagles ranges from slightly grainy in texture to very frosty. None of these textures is “better” than the other and it is up to the collector to decide which of these is preferable. The coloration ranges greatly as well with pieces known that show rich orange-gold, rose and greenish-gold or more subdued shades.
The eye appeal on 1926 Indian Head Eagles is usually very good and it is easy to find a high quality example which is well struck, lustrous, attractively toned and which shows reasonably unobtrusive marks.
The 1926 Indian Head Eagle is very common in all grades up to and including MS64. Gems are not rare but they are harder to locate than the 1932. Properly graded MS66 coins are very rare and in MS67 this date appears to be all but unknown.
