1914-S Indian Head Eagle

With a mintage of 208,000 the 1914-S Indian Head Eagle seems like just another relatively common date in the series. In actuality, this underrated date just barely misses the top third in grades of MS65 and finer and is rarer than the 1908-S, 1909-S, 1911-S and even the highly collectable 1930-S at Gem. Fewer than 1,200 examples can be found in all grades by the two major grading services combined.
1914 Indian Eagle: Brilliant Luster and Unique Color Variations
The luster is generally very brilliant and superior to that seen on most other issues in the series.
Most examples exhibit a green-gold hue but there are also a number that display fiery coppery highlights. Some show rich overlays of rose and tiny suggestions of orange peel. The strike is usually fairly sharp but there is often some level of detail missing at the top of the eagle’s wing on the reverse.
