The original mintage figure for Proofs of this date is 125. Given the rarity of these, it is possible that a number were melted in 1914 due to not having been sold. There are probably no more than 30 or so known with most grading PR64 to PR65. A small number of PR66 pieces are known and these are extremely rare. The 1914 Indian Head Half Eagle Proofs have a coarse sandblast finish which is similar to that seen on the 1915 and unique to these two years.
