1913 Indian Head Half Eagle

The 1913 is the second most common Indian Head Half Eagle in terms of overall rarity. In MS63 and above it is quite a bit scarcer than issues such as the 1908 and 1909-D and it is very comparable in this grade range to the 1912.
This issue tends to be quite well struck with very good overall detail seen on the obverse and on the reverse. On some pieces there is slight weakness on the eagle’s left (facing) leg but the collector should be able to find a well struck example with very little problem.
Condition and Coloration Variations in Early 20th Century Half Eagles
The surfaces are often noticeably abraded with deep, detracting marks. But there are a decent number of reasonably clean pieces and some very choice, relatively mark-free examples trade from time to time.
The luster is finely granular in texture, as seen on the 1912 Half Eagle.Coloration on the 1913 Indian Head Half Eagle is often a distinctive greenish-gold in hue and, lessoften a nice medium orange-gold shade. There are a decent number of attractive, original coins that still display pleasing coloration available to the collector.
