1912-S Coin: Rarity in Uncirculated Grades
The luster is well below average for this date, probably a result also of its weak strike and most examples come very dull in appearance. The surfaces are always found with a frosty texture accentuated by an above average level of granularity.
The color on the 1912-S Indian Head Eagle is usually a faint peach-orange or sometimes greenish gold. Many have been cleaned or dipped and do not show natural coloration as a result. Because of the dull luster and very weak strike that is most often seen with this date it would be considered near the bottom of the series in terms of overall eye appeal. Nice examples are quite rare and when a high quality piece with good eye appeal is offered for sale, it typically brings well over current catalog valuation.
The 1912-S Indian Head Eagle is most often seen in AU50 to MS60 grades. It is scarce in the lower Uncirculated grades and it becomes rare in MS63. It is very rare in MS64 and extremely rare in MS65.
