1910-S Indian Head Half Eagle

The 1910-S Indian Head Half Eagle is by far the scarcest of the three Half Eagles produced in this year. It is very similar in overall and high grade rarity to the 1912-S.
It has been mentioned in print that this is not a well struck issue but this is not the case. The 1910-S Indian Head Half Eagle generally shows very good detail on both the obverse and the reverse. The mintmark is better defined than on the later date San Francisco Half Eagles of this design on which the mintmark is often very blurry.
Surface Condition and Luster Variations of 1910-S Half Eagles
The surfaces are generally noticeably abraded with a number of pieces showing
detracting marks and abrasions in the fields. Some have mint-made spotting on the surfaces and it is very hard to find a piece that is clean.
Luster on this issue is found with two distinct textures. The more common of these is soft and very frosty while the second is very satiny. Both are desirable; although the latter is found on most of the very high grade certified 1910-S Half Eagles.
