1909-S Indian Gold Eagle: Rarity, Circulation, and Gem Condition
The 1909-S Indian Gold Eagle tends to be a more highly acclaimed coin due to its status as the first Indian Head Eagle from this Mint. The 1909-S is, however, a scarcer coin in terms of overall rarity and it is probably a harder coin to find in Gem condition as well.
The 1909-S Indian Gold Eagle is less often found in lower grades than the 1908-S and this is an indication that it did not circulate as readily. It is usually seen in AU55 to MS63 grades. The 1909-S is scarce in MS64 and rare in MS65 although a hoard which was discovered in 1977 has made Gems more available than in the past.
