1908-S San Francisco Half Eagle Stunning Coloration
Coloration seen on the 1908-S Indian Head Half Eagle ranges from orange-gold to reddish-gold. Some examples have deeper reddish-gold color at the borders and a number of light to medium mint-made copper spots on the surfaces. The eye appeal of this issue tends to be far above average for a San Francisco Indian Head Half Eagle. There are a number of Gems known that are very well struck, have superb color and luster and show just a few small marks on the surfaces.
The 1908-S is really the only San Francisco Half Eagle of this type that is ever available in Gem Uncirculated and it is also ranks as one of the prettiest issues in this series. It makes an excellent type coin for the collector looking for a very high grade Indian Head Half Eagle who wants something a bit more “exotic” than a common date issue from Philadelphia.
