1907 No Motto: Eye Appeal, Rarity, and Saint Gaudens Legacy
Eye appeal is outstanding on high-grade specimens but since this date can be found all over the grading spectrum they are most often shown with heavy abrasions that detract from the overall aesthetic properties of the coin.
Augustus Saint Gaudens died on August 3, 1907 and never lived to see his creation actually go into public hands. His legacy, however, is still very much alive today in this breathtaking series of Indian Head Eagles.
This issue, which is most often called the 1907 No Motto by collectors, is relatively common in all grades up to and including MS64. Gems are scarce but are still among the most frequently seen in the Indian Head Eagle series. There are a number of superb pieces available to collectors and with some patience the collector may be able to find a piece which grades MS66 or even MS67.
