The Eliasberg MS67 Gem and a Rare High-Grade Survivor
The finest known is a superb coin graded MS67 by PCGS from the Eliasberg collection, obtained directly from the San Francisco Mint in 1905 by the Clapp family.
The 1905-S double eagle is common in MS60 to MS62 and only moderately hard to locate in MS63 and in MS64 less than 400 are known. In MS65, it is quite rare with maybe 22 known. At the time this book is being written, there remains just a single superb PCGS graded MS67 example.
