Common in Lower Mint State, Scarce in Gem Grades
The coloration on uncleaned pieces is usually rose-gold or medium orange. The level of eye appeal for the 1893-S double eagle tends to be average or slightly above average. It is hard, as stated above, to find one with clean, choice surfaces.
The 1893-S double eagle is very common in MS60 to MS62 grades. It is scarce and under appreciated in MS64, with less than 115 reported by PCGS and NGC combined. I am aware of only a few in MS65.
