1878-CC Double Eagle: Grade Distribution and Market Rarity
At least two small groups entered the market in the early 1990s. The coins from these groups were generally in the EF40 to AU50 grade range.
The 1878-CC is generally seen in the EF40 to AU53 grade range. It is scarce in properly graded AU55 and rare in AU58. It is a very rare issue in uncirculated with around 15 or so known, mostly in the MS60 to MS61 range. There does not appear to be any finer than MS62.
