1877-S Double Eagle: Grade Distribution and Collector Demand

The 1877-S double eagle is seldom seen in grades below AU55, indicative of an issue that did not see wide circulation. It is relatively common in MS60 to MS61, and there are about seven hundred known in MS62. There are probably fewer than forty properly graded MS63s, and these are always popular with specialists.
