No significant die varieties are known, although it is probable that a number of minor varieties exist.

There were 45 Proofs struck. Approximately a dozen survive and these are seldom seen except at important auction sales.

The 1876 Double Eagle is common in circulated grades and somewhat scarce in the lower Mint State grades. It becomes scarce in MS62, rare in MS63, and is very rare in any higher grade.

Condition Census: An 1876 Double Eagle must grade MS64
in order to qualify as a Condition Census example.
