A total of 20 Proof 1875 Double Eagles were struck. This is the rarest and most highly prized Proof Type Two Double Eagle. Approximately eight to 10 pieces exist, with at least three of these permanently impounded in museum collections. 

The 1875 Double Eagle is generally found in the upper About Uncirculated grades. MS60 pieces are fairly common while MS61 and MS62’s can be obtained with a bit of patience. This date becomes rare in MS63 and it is exceedingly rare in any grade higher.

Condition Census: To qualify at the Condition Census level,
an 1875 Double Eagle must grade MS63+.
